Even for cyborgs like myself (people who happily take on things like juggling two careers, a new relationship, family time, and some type of social life and try to photograph and write about it as it happens) it feels great to get away from it all.
This week is spring break from my “day job”, teaching art at a public middle school. My man and I took a few days off from what normally would have been full-time tattooing to head north and spend time with friends and family. Our first stop was my mom and Chip’s secret hideaway in Ormond Beach. They have an awesome house in a very quiet neighborhood that they use to take quick weekend trips and entertain guests.
A vacation wouldn’t be a vacation if I didn’t have my dog with me. Basically, Lucy’s favorite activity is car-riding, so the four hour trip to Ormond after we left work Saturday night was nothing to her. Our fat boy Presley stayed behind with his aunties. The first thing we did Sunday morning was hit up the dog park in Holly Hill with Lucy and her bestie Loki.
The dogs had a good time at the park, and I can’t even begin to explain how good it feels to be somewhere where there is NO WORK to do… No chores, no tattoos, no students… Big sigh of relief. Just my family, dogs, and a quiet town. Unless it happens to be Bike Week and you happen to venture over to the Iron Horse. To be continued!
